For a city that offers as much as Milan, universities are essential for the creation of future management and to encourage tomorrow's continuing innovation and new opportunities.
The educational offer in Milan in recent years has been strongly enriched, becoming more differentiated and customized, not only in Milan's four historic public universities (Statale, Politecnico, Bocconi and Cattolica), but also in its new ones: the IULM, the Statale di Milano Bicocca, the Università Vita-Salute del San Raffaele, the Brera Fine Arts Academy, the "Giuseppe Verdi" Conservatory, the Theology Faculty and the NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti - the new Fine Arts Academy). These universities will forge the management of tomorrow to contribute to Milan's continuing growth and development.
Tens of thousands of students from all over Lombardy, Italy and sometimes from abroad, come to our city every year to study and to train to become managers, doctors, lawyers, engineers, economists, journalists, philosophers or artists. In short, these students are the lifeblood of our society and the intellectual force that has led Milan to excel in many sectors and to become a leader in scientific research on both a public and private level.
Milan's institutes of education also expresses its two personalities: one focused on capital and the economy while, at the same time, the other concentrates on culture and the arts. These two directions are made tangible in the three historic faculties of Economics and in the Politecnico - which, together, show the greatest number of enrolments - and in the rich study offer linked to culture and the art which is also present in Milan. In this way the seriousness and rigor of advanced economy studies are flanked by the genius and creativity of the art to constantly renew our city's vital energy.
One piece of information alone proves that creativity and scientific rigor join hands in our metropolis: Milan is in first place for the registration of patents with the Patents Office and a notable 74% of all the patents registered in Italy are registered here.
