CONGRESSES AND MEETINGS CENTRES IN MILAN
Among its many records, Milan also boasts the largest congress centre in Italy, the FMC Centre, and Milan is a candidate to become the city with the most important congress facilities on an international level.
The FMC Centre was inaugurated by Fiera Milano Congressi in 2002 with an investment of 15 million euros, entirely self-financed. The FMC Centre can hold 25,000 people at the same time, thanks to its 36 halls with an individual capacity from 10 to 2,000 and its assembly halls offering 5,000 places. Its multifunctional areas cover 85,000 square meters of surface area and are equipped with the most advanced technology. The space in the FMC is extremely flexible, which makes it an absolutely innovative structure and it has brought to Milan the great international congresses that opted for our city instead of other major European destinations (Paris, Berlin, Barcelona, Vienna). The FMC holds 500 events per year with a total of 200,000 participants, making it the leading congress centre in Italy.
This futuristic ensemble, managed by Fiera Milano Congressi, is, however, only the cutting edge of a vast offer of comfortable venues suitable for any type of event, conference or congress and located in dozens of Milan hotels and in public and private institutes. The most prestigious locations are those in Milan's ancient palaces in its historical centre: Palazzo Affari ai Giureconsulti, Palazzo Turati and Palazzo delle Stelline.
Palazzo Turati, built in 1880, is today the seat of the Chamber of Commerce. It, too, has become a modern multifunctional centre at the service of the companies and institutions that gravitate around Milan.
Palazzo Affari ai Giureconsulti boasts an ancient tradition and it has been the centre of the city's economic life for centuries. Built in 1562, it is one of the most notable buildings in Piazza dei Mercanti the square in the heart, of Milan's social welfare and business System. The space this wonderful building provides is subdivided into 8 splendid halls for extremely flexible utilization, equipped with advanced technology and affording the possibility of qualified 'customization' for scheduled events.
Lastly, the Centro Congressi delle Stelline, a former monastery and later a charity institution in the second half of the fifteen hundreds, was transformed into an orphanage for girls in 1753 through the work of San Carlo Borromeo, becoming the pride of Milan's welfare System under the reign of Maria Theresa of Austria. Today, the Centro Congressi delle Stelline boasts the greatest number of conference halls and the most space for congresses in Milan's historical centre and it includes a hotel with a total of 105 rooms and suites.
